My 8 month old Maltese has lost all her baby teeth but one in the front. The permanent tooth is also there.?
I had her fixed in February and both of the teeth were there at that time. I didn%26#039;t think anything about it. My vet never said anything about removing it. Since I have read some of the answers on here I am worried about it. Should I pay to have her put to sleep to have it removed. She only weighs 3.4 lbs. I hate to have to do that to her.

I took my boys to the dentist and found out they both have some cavities and will cost almost 100/cavitiy to be filled. Just for their health, I want to know if it is okay and cause no health risk if they don%26#039;t have it filled. Fillings on baby teeth seems like a lost cause because they will lose them soon. Now, I don%26#039;t want to scare you to death with that, but it is true. My son had to go into a hospital and be put to sleep to fix all his teeth at once, the rear teeth have metal caps on them. The good news is...he is 10 now, he went for his last check up in December, he had NO cavities and had a good experience at the dentist. His anxiety has dropped now that he sees that the dentist is not always a scary place to be. We are working on better oral hygiene to keep it that way. Now, we drive an hour just to see a special pediatric dentist that works with children specifically. They use gas in the office for fillings and are very kid friendly. It%26#039;s worth the hour drive, trust me.
Take into account the age of your kids and how long they will have those baby teeth in there. Find a good understanding dentist and be honest, ask questions. If it%26#039;s a money issue, tell them. They will figure the best way for both you and your child to get through this. I know how it is.

In a dog, when would the last of the permanent teeth come in?
My 13 pound, 7 month old poodle mix still has not gotten her teeth between her canines and her molars. Is this normal? Also, her lower front teeth are very very small while her canine teeth seem about average.
She eats well and chews on toys etc with no apparent problems but I do see her constantly shift her food to the back of her mouth so that she can get a grip on it.

Reply:A lot of smaller dogs have teeth issues. You should probably bring her to a vet so they can x-ray her mouth to see if there are any problems that you can%26#039;t see. They can fix her up good as new!

You need to go to a vet that has training in dental disease and has access to dental radiography (different from regular radiographs in both technique and machinery). Vets get minimal dental training, so finding the right vet is very important. I refer all of mine to someone that is doing her fellowship in dentistry.

To replace your old one, which is probably mercury and bad for your health, he will do exactly the same thing as last time but will put in a filling which looks better and is better for your health.
All you will feel is the injection.

If it hurts, you didnt get enough novacaine, tell the doc if you feel pain - but that means you have to have another shot.
Dont eat until the novacaine wears off, you might bite the inside of your mouth or tongue.

The steps on redoing a filling are as follows:
You may or may not need anesthsia (depends on the size of the filling), a root canaled tooth will not need anesthesia b/c the nerve has already been removed.
The old filling will be removed. If there is any decay underneath the filling that will be removed as well.
A blue substance will be applied to the tooth ( this is called Etchant or Etch). It will be rinsed off in a matter of seconds. ( It tastes sour so be prepared)
The tooth will be dryed and must stay dry from now until the filling is cured.
A primer will be placed on the tooth. And then air dryed.
Bonding adhesive will be applied and light cured.
Then the composite filling material will be packed into the hole. This will be light cured as well. It may take a few layers to complete.
You should not be in pain at all. If you are numb...when the numbness wears off it is possible to be a little tender (depending on the size of the filling and if the tooth has had RCT). If you do experience tenderness or sensitivity it is suggested to take ibuprofen to reduce any inflammation that has been caused.
You%26#039;ll be fine. Fillings are not a big deal. I hope I helped out by giving you the run down of the procedure. I know it always helps to ease patients minds if they know what to expect!

This can be expensive about $1200++ and teeth are extremely sensitive for days and days afterwards.

If the baby tooth is loose, encourage him to wiggle it a bit each day to coax it to fall out. If it isn%26#039;t and the permanent tooth continues to grow in behind the tooth, it is best to have a dentist remove the baby tooth as soon as possible so that the permanent one has room to grow in. If you wait too long, the tooth may find its new position farther back and your son may need braces to correct it.

Reply:You do nothing. That%26#039;s a natural thing called a 6 year molar. Some people call it the first molar. We have 4 of these, two upper and two lower and they errupt just behind the last baby tooth in the back. This %26quot;6 year%26quot; molar can errupt anywhere from age 5 to 7. There is nothing wrong and no, he does not need to see a dentist unless he%26#039;s having some problem. I hope this helps. :)
Reply:What lots of the other people are saying too because this happened to my sister and we just waited and the perm tooth pushed her baby tooth out so i would just leave it bu if he gets uncomfortable with it then you should take him to see the dentist.
Reply:If the tooth is in the BACK then sure, it%26#039;s probably just th enormal eruption of the six year molar. If it%26#039;s coming in in the FRONT behind the baby lower incisors, then that could be a concern... If he%26#039;s scheduled to see the dentist within the next 2-3 months anywya, you%26#039;re pobably ok waiting %26#039;til then. If not, you probably want to have it looked at...I can%26#039;t really answer for you w/o looking in your son%26#039;s mouth and/or looking at xrays.
Now, if your son is five years old and doesn%26#039;t see a dentist regularly, you need to get on the horse and get him in ANYway...I think kids shoudl be seen starting at 2 or 3...the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists and the ADA actually says one year old! which is not unreasonable, either.
As for the dentist%26#039;s wife above who said %26quot;don%26#039;t worry%26quot;... I%26#039;m kind of surprised, if only because you%26#039;d think she%26#039;d be more cognizant of where her bread is buttered! Lol... seriously tho%26#039;, I%26#039;m not always saying to run to the dentist for everything, even in cases where I coudl make a buck on it...

Usually, the permanent tooth comes in UNDERNEATH the baby tooth, dissolving the roots as it comes in. That%26#039;s how the baby tooth becomes loose enough to fall out. If the baby tooth is loose, encourage him to wiggle it a bit each day to coax it to fall out. If it isn%26#039;t and the permanent tooth continues to grow in behind the tooth, it is best to have a dentist remove the baby tooth as soon as possible so that the permanent one has room to grow in. If you wait too long, the tooth may find its new position farther back and your son may need braces to correct it.

Reply:You do nothing. That%26#039;s a natural thing called a 6 year molar. Some people call it the first molar. We have 4 of these, two upper and two lower and they errupt just behind the last baby tooth in the back. This %26quot;6 year%26quot; molar can errupt anywhere from age 5 to 7. There is nothing wrong and no, he does not need to see a dentist unless he%26#039;s having some problem. I hope this helps. :)

If it%26#039;s coming in in the FRONT behind the baby lower incisors, then that could be a concern... If he%26#039;s scheduled to see the dentist within the next 2-3 months anywya, you%26#039;re pobably ok waiting %26#039;til then. If not, you probably want to have it looked at...I can%26#039;t really answer for you w/o looking in your son%26#039;s mouth and/or looking at xrays.
Now, if your son is five years old and doesn%26#039;t see a dentist regularly, you need to get on the horse and get him in ANYway...I think kids shoudl be seen starting at 2 or 3...the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists and the ADA actually says one year old! which is not unreasonable, either.

I%26#039;m kind of surprised, if only because you%26#039;d think she%26#039;d be more cognizant of where her bread is buttered! If the teeth are NOT removed or capped, then bacteria will have an open door into the dog%26#039;s bloodstream, the teeth will be at constant risk for tooth root abscesses (that open pulp cavity is a nice home for bacteria), and it will also be very painful as the tooth root is exposed to open air.
The mouthwash is pretty worthless, and human mouthwash is very harsh for dogs, and potentially toxic if it contains fluoride (dogs don%26#039;t spit it out like we do). Not much you can do until a vet sees it.

What did it cost for the permanent teeth to be manufactured and installed after implants for the upper set?
I am about to undergo surgery to remove my upper teeth and have implants installed. I was wondering if anyone knows what the cost for the permanant teeth that will attach to the implant once the healing is completed have cost. Is it the same as a regular crown or is it less costly?

It may hurt so you have to eat soft foods and DONT drink out of straws

Its coming in on her gums under her tounge instead of straight up. We%26#039;re going to the dentist in the morning (I just noticed it today when I was pretending to look at her teeth like I look at my infants gums while making a funny noise, just to explain) but I%26#039;m just wondering what the dentist might do. Reply:If all of her baby teeth are out of the way, the orthodontist will probably just put on mini-braces. That%26#039;s what they do when little kids need braces before adolescence. It only hurts after they change the wire, usually for 2-3 days, but ice cream helps a lot.

Reply:Our daughter%26#039;s permanent teeth were not coming in straight either, and so we went to her pediatric dentist/orthodontist and she has actually already had braces and now has a permanent retainer in for the next few years- she is not 10 yet! It was like a miracle, how quickly her teeth moved and what they told me was many dentists like to wait until all permanent teeth are in before doing anything- sort of like fixing the problem after it occurs. But our dentist goes the other route which is preventitive dentistry. A child%26#039;s jaw is still very soft at your daughter%26#039;s age and they can do wonderful things with retainers and braces at a younger age now! I too was very reluctant and not well-educated on the subject before we decided to go ahead. But I researched it on the internet and found it to be a good thing and our dentist knew what he was talking about! They call it Phase 1 and Phase 2 pediatric dentistry if you want to check it out on the internet. And as far as it hurting, I am sure all children are different. Our child did not have to have any teeth pulled or anything and the only complaint she had was at 1st with the first wire they put in, her tongue kept hitting it. Just research it and definitely go to a pediatric dentist!

She most likely is about 30-40 pounds so just think she has a lot of growing to do,her mouth included, until she has room for all of them some may be in the wrong spot. The Dr. may want to pull one of her other 3 front bottom teeth if the other ones are coming in under them, my 7y/o just had one pulled and one baby tooth filled because he didn%26#039;t want her to loose it yet. Reply:If all of her baby teeth are out of the way, the orthodontist will probably just put on mini-braces. That%26#039;s what they do when little kids need braces before adolescence. It only hurts after they change the wire, usually for 2-3 days, but ice cream helps a lot.
On the first appt., they will x-ray and talk about possible treatment options. They won%26#039;t do anything else until later appointments.

Reply:Our daughter%26#039;s permanent teeth were not coming in straight either, and so we went to her pediatric dentist/orthodontist and she has actually already had braces and now has a permanent retainer in for the next few years- she is not 10 yet! It was like a miracle, how quickly her teeth moved and what they told me was many dentists like to wait until all permanent teeth are in before doing anything- sort of like fixing the problem after it occurs. But our dentist goes the other route which is preventitive dentistry. A child%26#039;s jaw is still very soft at your daughter%26#039;s age and they can do wonderful things with retainers and braces at a younger age now! I too was very reluctant and not well-educated on the subject before we decided to go ahead. But I researched it on the internet and found it to be a good thing and our dentist knew what he was talking about! They call it Phase 1 and Phase 2 pediatric dentistry if you want to check it out on the internet. And as far as it hurting, I am sure all children are different. Our child did not have to have any teeth pulled or anything and the only complaint she had was at 1st with the first wire they put in, her tongue kept hitting it. Just research it and definitely go to a pediatric dentist!

She most likely is about 30-40 pounds so just think she has a lot of growing to do,her mouth included, until she has room for all of them some may be in the wrong spot. The Dr. may want to pull one of her other 3 front bottom teeth if the other ones are coming in under them, my 7y/o just had one pulled and one baby tooth filled because he didn%26#039;t want her to loose it yet. I continue using the little bands that i was supposed to use with the retainer because it keeps my gap from returning...but is all this shifting bad for my teeth? i%26#039;m 14 years old but i have been diagnosed with dentinogenesis imperfecta. this means that the enamel on my teeth is extremely weak and my teeth decay extremely quickly, reguardless of how much i take care of them. even worse, i also have acid relfux disease, where my stomach does not produce enough stomach acid and i uncontrollably regurgitate food. this causes acidic food to come into my mouth and decay my teeth further. I have seen on TV shows that there is a type of teeth replacement where metal %26quot;screws%26quot; are screwed into your jaw bone and fake teeth are attached permanently. i have already had two (2) root canals and i have one crown. is it worth it. I know that inevitably, i will have fake teeth by the time i am 25. any information will help... and I dont need a pity party, i get enough of that from my mom!

The best advise I can give you is to get regular plates. They look just as good as regular teeth, plus their no where as expensive as the implanted teeth. The last I heard, implanted teeth like you want usually run anywhere from $500 to a $1000, each tooth. A good set of plates can run anywhere from around $800 to maybe $2000 depending on the quality of the material.
Another advantage to plates is that you can take them out every night and clean them. Since you are 14, every few years or so, since your growing, you%26#039;ll need to get them relined which is really no big deal.
I%26#039;ve been wearing plates for years now and to be perfectly honest, I don%26#039;t miss my real ones at all. Actually, I can eat just about anything I want, cold or hot, except nuts which I do love. I%26#039;ve had false teeth since I was around my mid 30s and I am 58 now. I have also never worn my lower plate, but my top plate is rock solid since I modified them myself with a file and sandpaper. Believe me, I love my Steak:))

This alternative is also extremely expensive which I wouldn%26#039;t recommend unless your parents both have dental plans at their work. I just had all my teeth removed in December and I am still healing, but I have the plated dentures which i have not been able to use yet because of my strong gag reflex. I have to go back to the dentist and have him cut out a section of the upper suction plate which is causing me to gag. FYI I am only 35 years old...not much difference between 25. Hope this helps.

First of all i had a feeling that my whole teeth structure was not good and so i decided to wear a braces, i was wearing it for 1 year afterwhich i had to remove it and fix up four permanent duplicate teeth.During my course of my treatment i was not able to attend with the doctor on time. Now i hvae strong feeling that my total teeth structure is changing and also my skull , my jaws are protruding out and my teeth are badly acheing sometimes . Getting a permanent (3 teeth) upper front bridge and crowns?
After two years of wearing a partial front upper, with a metal roof, I am soo happy to be able to throw this thing out very soon.. On this Thursday, (I had an impression made almost two weeks ago), I will go and get my fixed/permanent bridge? Or will it be one that is just a temporary?
Also, I will be getting several crowns up top, to make it all look nice, but THAT is what I am scared of... they sand down your own teeth to almost nothing, I am told, and then put the crown/cap over it.. Anyone have any of this done? How was it? Dentist says it will take three visits. On Thursday, he says I will be there about two hours. Any comments or advice would be greatly appeciated!

You will probably get a temp. first because your impressions are sent to the Dental Lab so that your permanent can be fabricated. It is way better aesthetically than the denture you had. Is there a disadvantage to having permanent fake (porcelain?) teeth? I have a few really messed up teeth and the cost for getting a fake tooth put in (the kind that are attached to your jaw, instead of the kind that are removable) is about $1000 or so. The total cost for a root canal and crown is $1000-$1200.

A friend had dental surgery done and had his remaining teeth pulled. He had to have a bone graft. This was last February. In July, one implant was found not to have taken. Another implant was done. The uncovered the last one in December. He is still waiting to get his permanent teeth for his implant screws. He has 4 implant screws on the bottom. A whole year seems long.

My 11 yr old daughter is short 10-12 of her permanent teeth. can this be a genetic disorder?
at her orthodontist appt. yesterday, the dentist asked me if she had ever been genetically tested, due to her severe shortage of permanent teeth to replace the baby teeth she has now. she added that such a severe shortage of permanent teeth can be a symtom of several genetic disorders. has anyone heard of any situation like this before? i am out of my element and at a loss, and helpless....and worried for my daughter.

Always get a second opinion...it%26#039;s worth it, I%26#039;d have so many fillings I didn%26#039;t need, un necessary surgery and teeth pulled if it weren%26#039;t for second opinions. I hate to say it but quackery abounds in the dental profession (as in any where you put a lot of trust).

You do know that they will give you something, right? If it really worries you that much, have the dentist put you to sleep. Then you won%26#039;t know that they are cutting, pulling, sewing in your mouth. When you wake up, it will be all over. Sure you%26#039;ll be sore...but they%26#039;ll give you good drugs for the pain.
Reply:I had two removed from he very back and its not that bad. They numb you up so you really don%26#039;t feel much. After you might be sore so they will prescribe you some painkillers.

It%26#039;s usually sore few days after 2 to 3 days, Advil and Ibuprofen can take care of that! it sound way horrible and scary then it%26#039;s usually it%26#039;s! A consultation with a dietitian can be very helpful in identifying sugary foods/drinks.
HYGIENE: Kids cannot be expected to clean their teeth properly until about the age of 8. They don%26#039;t have the understanding or dexterity. An adult should do a proper job 2x daily.
Fluoride applications to the new adult back teeth is very helpful, but is only of use if also following a good diet and hygiene. It is absolutely safe. Your child should also be using an adult fluoride toothpaste too.
If you establish good diet and hygiene habits at an early stage, then he will not get more cavities. Tooth decay is totally preventable.

My 7 year old son lost his two front primary teeth 5 month ago in May, but up to now (Oct. 10) there is still no sign that his permanent teeth will erupt. I started to worry. Is this abnormal? Does any have similar experiences? Thanks in advance.

ok, so, i have this orthodontist that told me i have to pull out 4-5 permanent teeth. to get a %26quot;perfect%26quot; bite. will this hurt, and what will they be doing to me to pull it out?

they are probably going to extract four of your bicuspids because there isn%26#039;t enough room in your mouth for everything. extractions are no fun, when they are injecting the anesthetic it usually doesn%26#039;t hurt but it seems like they are going to shove the needle all the way through the top of your head. it will ache quite a bit for the first few days, and the constant blood taste in your mouth is awful. google %26quot;tooth extraction process%26quot; if you are really sure you want to know more. and always, get a second opinion because different orthodontists sometimes have different ways of doing things
Reply:Chris-----they numb the gums well with Novocaine so it doesn%26#039;t really hurt.------they inject the gums with a tiny needle that stings just a little but isn%26#039;t too bad.---all you feel is pressure----doesn%26#039;t hurt.
Reply:if they are pulling all four out at once ask to be put under it will be less scary . if they choose to put a needle in the roof of your mouth to numb you don%26#039;t do it it hurts like hell literaly like its going right threw your head . to get teeth pulled you will feel pressure no pain. if you have an abcess then it will be painful goodluck

2) CONSCIOUS SEDATION - you take a pill, laughing gas, or an IV. These make you less aware of, or indifferent to, unpleasant experiences. You still get shots, but they almost never hurt under sedation. You will likely have difficulty remembering anything unpleasant. Usually costs more, sometimes as much as the extractions themselves.
3) GENERAL ANESTHESIA - very rarely done because of cost. You are completely out. No shots are necessary, but are sometimes given at the end of the procedure so that you won%26#039;t wake up in pain.

If you have a specific problem that would warrant the removal of 4-5 healthy teeth, an independent second opinion should confirm this.

Do you have problems cleaning certain areas in your mouth?
Do you have joint pain/clicking?
If your answers to the above is no, re-consider your decision to have Orthodontic treatment. A %26quot;perfect bite%26quot; is not a good enough reason to undergo such lengthy and costly treatment unless perfection is what you%26#039;re after.
