My daughters permanent teeth are not coming in straight?

Its coming in on her gums under her tounge instead of straight up. We%26#039;re going to the dentist in the morning (I just noticed it today when I was pretending to look at her teeth like I look at my infants gums while making a funny noise, just to explain) but I%26#039;m just wondering what the dentist might do. I don%26#039;t want to go in totally clueless and I%26#039;d like to prepare my daughter if they have to do anything kind of scary.

She may need braces when she is older. Or a retainer. Wait for all of her teeth to grow out before thinking about treatment for crooked teeth.





You can ask your dentist about what to do to help them grow in straight.
Reply:idk what dentist will do but here%26#039;s some advice: If you don%26#039;t like the dentist%26#039;s plan for her teeth, don%26#039;t just accept it. Go to a 2nd dentist.

does she have them?
Reply:if shes very young, and it sounds like she is - he%26#039;ll probably do some x-rays to see the position of her remaining permanent teeth above the gum line to get an idea of where she%26#039;ll be in the next couple of years.





If it looks like braces will be in her future, he%26#039;ll let you know and probably tell you they%26#039;ll wait until most or all of her permanent teeth are in - like around 11-13yo. Thats when I got braces, thats when most kids get them. There isn%26#039;t much you can do till then.
Reply:Make sure you have a dentist that believes in preventative care. Some will say wait til all the teeth come in, others will use retainers and so on to attempt to straighten the teeth as they come in. This could be cheaper and easier for you both in the long run.
Reply:First of all, don%26#039;t frighten her right off. Braces are a pretty common treatment. Don%26#039;t go crazy worrying her and you. Second...they can do fantastic dental work these days and the bigger picture is the health of her teeth and the smile of her future. Relax, Mom...it will be ok.
Reply:If all of her baby teeth are out of the way, the orthodontist will probably just put on mini-braces. That%26#039;s what they do when little kids need braces before adolescence. It only hurts after they change the wire, usually for 2-3 days, but ice cream helps a lot.





On the first appt., they will x-ray and talk about possible treatment options. They won%26#039;t do anything else until later appointments.

Reply:I wouldn%26#039;t worry about it until all the permanent teeth come in. Sometimes they grow in crooked but when they are all there they push against each other and straighten out. Though she may need braces when she is older, it%26#039;s nothing to be concerned about now. Just keep them healty with regular brushing and talk to your dentist about it if you%26#039;re worried. He won%26#039;t do anything scary to her without talking to you first!

Reply:Our daughter%26#039;s permanent teeth were not coming in straight either, and so we went to her pediatric dentist/orthodontist and she has actually already had braces and now has a permanent retainer in for the next few years- she is not 10 yet! It was like a miracle, how quickly her teeth moved and what they told me was many dentists like to wait until all permanent teeth are in before doing anything- sort of like fixing the problem after it occurs. But our dentist goes the other route which is preventitive dentistry. A child%26#039;s jaw is still very soft at your daughter%26#039;s age and they can do wonderful things with retainers and braces at a younger age now! I too was very reluctant and not well-educated on the subject before we decided to go ahead. But I researched it on the internet and found it to be a good thing and our dentist knew what he was talking about! They call it Phase 1 and Phase 2 pediatric dentistry if you want to check it out on the internet. And as far as it hurting, I am sure all children are different. Our child did not have to have any teeth pulled or anything and the only complaint she had was at 1st with the first wire they put in, her tongue kept hitting it. Just research it and definitely go to a pediatric dentist!

Reply:yes that%26#039;s possible...............but don%26#039;t worry when she start growing her teeth will be in right place......the only reason permanent teeth grow that way cz its obvious that teeth are way bigger than their baby teeth......but like i mention if she grow older and her gum start to stretch that teeth will be in the right place.

Reply:Most people have some tooth that didn%26#039;t come up right so first of all don%26#039;t sweat it. She most likely is about 30-40 pounds so just think she has a lot of growing to do,her mouth included, until she has room for all of them some may be in the wrong spot. The Dr. may want to pull one of her other 3 front bottom teeth if the other ones are coming in under them, my 7y/o just had one pulled and one baby tooth filled because he didn%26#039;t want her to loose it yet. I guess if it were out the other one would grow in crooked. Also if you don%26#039;t have insurance for braces start saving, most people today have some kind of Orthodontics. Best of luck, B.
Reply:Braces. Just wait. Until ALL her teeth come in. Then get braces.
Reply:that happenend to me to it probabbly just means that her gums dont have enough space for ur teeth to grow in straight that might sugest u go to the orthodontist and get an expander tis just metal wiring stuck to the roof of your mouth and it somehow gives ur mouth space for ur teeth to come in
